SPRING CLASSES

Whether your child is looking for a place to start, or is already a seasoned performer, VYT’s classes are fun, engaging and will foster a passion for acting, dance, musical theatre, storytelling, improvisation, and more. Classes are designed to develop a young performer’s stage presence while teaching life-skills, enriching self-esteem, building confidence and communication, and creating an ensemble and community of VYT family.

 WELCOME TO SPRING!

We can't wait to meet your young actor. Whether they are seasoned performer or a newbie to the stage, we have all sorts of classes for every age and level. VYT's education programs provide young actors a safe place to learn, grow and play. 

Here are some things to know about class registration:

  • Registration will remain open until the 2nd class, or the class sells out, whichever comes first.
  • There is an additional $10 administrative fee and a $5 internet service fee for online registration.
    • You may register via phone by contacting our box office at 602-253-8188.
  • Please note there are NO REFUNDS OR PRORATED PRICING.

play pretend (ages 3-4)

Take your child’s creativity and imagination to the next level! This class is specially designed to give three- and four-year-olds the opportunity to practice cooperation and teamwork, build self-confidence and learn about theatre in a fun, supportive environment. Our teaching artists combine creative play, storytelling, movement and song to reveal the world of Play Pretend!

treasure trunk theatre (AGES 5-8)

Create your own story adventure with Treasure Trunk Theatre! Children will explore acting, improvisation, character creation, creative movement, and guided storytelling, from beginning to middle to end. This engaging class will culminate with an original piece created by the ensemble, all through the lens of a playful theme! The only limit to this class is our imaginations so get ready for an immersive, one-of-a-kind experience!

MUSICAL theatre (ages 5-8)

This engaging class is a VYT tradition – and an excellent introduction to the world of musical theatre! Students will find self-confidence, discover natural talents, let their imaginations soar and start building their skills in acting, song and dance in this fun, foundational class. All experience levels are welcome!

MUSICAL theatre (ages 9-12)

Polish your skills in acting, singing and dance on an intermediate level! This class is the next steppingstone in our musical theatre program. Students will explore ensemble and solo singing, choreography, staging a scene and character creation over the course of eight weeks. Our teaching artists will sequence each class to help young people work together as an ensemble, as they build and rehearse their own musical review.

IMPROVISATION (AGES 9+)

Get up on your feet and find your funny! This class sets the stage for students to explore the imaginative world of theatre through improvisation, a foundational skill that is necessary for every actor. Students will sharpen their comedic timing, hone their ability to think on their feet, and gain confidence in finding their actor's impulse. Students will play short-form improv games, create original characters, and "yes and" their way through improvised scenes with the ensemble in a fun and supportive environment. All experience levels are welcome!

acting technique (ages 9-12)

Improvisation, movement, voice, and character creation are the foundation blocks of this fun, energetic class. Students will learn fundamental acting techniques and the art of building an ensemble in an encouraging, supportive environment. Our teaching artists guide students through theatre games, vocal and physical exercises, monologue work and scene work. The culminating showcase is customized for each eight-week session and will highlight the talents and skills of the ensemble.

advanced-acting

ADVANCED ACTING (ages 10+)

This class is designed to take your acting ability to the next level, and has the requirement that students must have taken Acting for Teens or Acting Technique in the past to ensure they are ready to take that next step. Students can nail their next audition with this class that will focus on monologue and cold reading preparation for auditions, trusting the actor's impulse, making strong choices, character analysis and upper-level movement and voice techniques. The class will culminate in the performance of audition-ready, contrasting monologues, or an in-depth scene study that students can add to their audition portfolios.

ACTING FOR TEENS (ages 12+)

This dynamic class offers valuable performance training for teens through a sequence of improvisation, character creation, monologue exploration, voice and movement exercises, and scene work. Students will also explore what it means to make strong choices as actors and utilize objectives to create truthful and fully invested scenes. The culminating showcase is customized for each eight-week session and will highlight the talents and skills of the ensemble.

This upbeat and energetic class for teens will allow students to express themselves creatively, grow as an ensemble, and teach the foundations of musical theatre (vocal performance, dance, and acting) on an intermediate to advanced level. This class will culminate in an "audition style" performance showcasing students' growth which they can then add as a polished song to their audition repertoire.

playmakers

playmakers (AGES 9+)

In this brand-new creative class/ performance troupe, students will learn how to build a play from the ground up! Starting with the writing process, students will find out what it takes to go from brainstorming, to writing, to editing and revising an original play. As an ensemble, students will then audition, cast, design, rehearse and perform in their own full-length piece, which will debut in front of a live audience for the first time on performance day. Explore the world of theatre through every angle with this fun-filled performance based class!
