On Saturday, August 18, Valley Youth Theatre held our largest – and only - fundraising event of the year, The VYTal (Valley Youth Theatre Applauds Leadership) Affair. Nearly 400 Valley community leaders, parents and patrons of the arts arrived at Herberger Theater Center to help VYT celebrate and raise funding for our 30th Anniversary season.

Special thanks go to our Marquee sponsors, Billie Jo and Judd Herberger, as well as our Choreographer sponsors, APS, BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona, Grand Canyon University and Doug & Gwen Parker.

A silent auction with more than 100 items generously donated from local businesses was held in the lobby and on Stage West, along with donated food and beverages from several amazing local restaurants and catering companies.

Everyone was then ushered into Center Stage where John and Gina Salazar Hook hosted the evening that was interspersed with VYTALITY (Valley Youth Theater Applauds Leadership Impacting Today’s Youth) Awards, a live auction and select numbers from Newsies performed by the cast and orchestra.

This year’s Corporate VYTALITY Award was presented to Grand Canyon University and the Individual Award went to Pam Kirby. Twenty-year VYT Board Member, Laura Stover, received this year’s Superstar Award.

For the rousing live auction, VYT friend and Valley Auctiontainer, Letitia Frye, maximized donations for sought-after prizes that included a Broadway Weekend in New York, Standard Bearer status at the Phoenix Open, an 18-guest suite at a Diamondbacks game, a dinner for 25 catered by Little Miss BBQ, a 4-guest suite at a Phoenix Suns game and Dinner for eight at Tarbell’s.
